Dr. Hans Dembowski holds a PhD in development sociology by Bielefeld University. A native speaker of German and English, he grew up in Frankfurt, London, Rome, Chicago and Tübingen.
Since 2004, Dr. Dembowski has been editor in chief of D+C/E+Z / Development and Cooperation / Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit, a bilingual website (www.dandc.eu) and a print magazine. D+C/E+Z that serves as an international forum for debating issues that relate to global development. From 2000-2003, Dembowski worked on the business and economics desk of the Frankfurter Rundschau. From 1991-2000, he worked on the business and economics desk of Deutsche Welle Radio.
Hans Dembowski’s book „Taking the state to court – Public interest litigation and the public sphere in metropolitan India” was published by Oxford University Press in 2001. International distribution was discontinued, however, after the Calcutta High Courts started a contempt-of-court case. The case has been pending since. An e-book version is available from Asienhaus, a Cologne-based German non-governmental organisation.
